My Story Meet the Herd Shearing Services Preparation Farm Butchery Pricing

Herdcraft

Raised on a farm.
Here for yours.

Professional farm services rooted in generations of farming knowledge. I specialize in shearing llamas, alpacas, and small sheep herds. I'll treat your animals like my own — because I strive to be the shearer we couldn't find as a small producer.

Built on the land,
guided by tradition

Hi, I'm Andalyn — born and raised on my family's third generation farm. Growing up with my grandparents right next door was an adventure. I never knew if I'd be helping my grandpa wash a bummer lamb or train a donkey to pull a cart. Grandpa Dutch introduced me to all species, and I learned to love animals from him.

I earned my driven ethic by working alongside my mom and dad to build our own farm infrastructure and herds. They were incredibly supportive — I don't know many other parents who'd let their kid walk a llama through the house or help raise various orphaned animals!

I enjoyed 4-H and FFA, and volunteered at a wildlife rehabilitation center specializing in birds of prey. Loving livestock and wildlife has shaped my life. That passion led me to shearing school — twice — and eventually to earning a certificate in Meat Services from Bridgerland Technical College.

I'm always thrilled to connect my community with where their food, clothing, and products come from through agriculture. Whether you're booking a shearing run or exploring a farm butchery workshop, you'll find the same standard here: honest work, done well, by someone who genuinely loves what they do.

How to prepare

A little preparation goes a long way toward making shearing day smooth, safe, and stress-free for both you and your animals. Here's what I ask of every client before I arrive.

If you have any questions about getting ready, don't hesitate to reach out — I'm always happy to walk first-timers through the process.

01

Hold feed & water 12 hours before

Animals should be off feed and water the night before shearing. This reduces the risk of bloat and keeps things cleaner for everyone.

02

Bring sheep in the night before

Having your animals yarded and under cover the evening before keeps their fleece dry and makes the morning run much smoother.

03

Keep fleeces dry

Wet wool cannot be shorn safely. If rain is forecast, ensure animals have adequate shelter beforehand.

04

Prepare a clean, dry area

A clean, dry floor space is needed for shearing. A shed, garage, or covered area works well — I'll need enough room to work safely around the animal.

05

Schedule medications separately

Please administer any vaccines or medications on a different day. This keeps shearing day calm and focused on the animals' comfort.

From the farm,
to the table

When our steer "Freddie Mercury" broke his leg on our farm during Covid, we were left with no choice but to harvest him in the field. With no butchery experience, we watched a couple videos and did our best. It was a pivotal experience in my life, and I wanted to learn how to do it better and cleaner than we had during that emergency.

I then attended Bridgerland Technical College and earned a certificate in Meat Services and now work in the meat industry.

If you are interested in learning how to harvest your own livestock on your property, I would love to come and teach you through the process. You will provide the supplies and set up, and I'll supply the knowledge and confidence for your first time.
